Cancelled Flight

My whole group were cancelled off a flight during a tour of India, we had checked out of the hotel in Delhi and were due to fly to the city of Udaipur. I had all the flight tickets, went to the check in desk, presented the flight tickets and was informed that my whole group had been cancelled off the flight. The flight was full and there were no more flights that day. So we had no flight and had checked out of our hotel.

Our local agent suggested going by coach to Udaipur but this was a 16 hour drive on India’s treacherous mountain roads and it was already 2pm so most of the journey would be in darkness. I decided that this was not an option. Most of my clients were over 60 and it would be unfair to put them through a bumpy, overnight coach journey. It is not often that a Tour Guide has to stand up and say no but this was one of those rare occasions.

In the end we went back to the hotel in Delhi, where fortunately enough rooms were available. We got the flight to Udaipur the following day.

Sometimes you just have to make the best of a situation.
