My favourite city in Rajasthan, Udaipur is nestling in the hills, known as city of lakes and palaces. It was founded by Udai Singh, the second of the kings who ruled this area of Rajasthan, known as Mewar. The kings in most areas of Rajasthan were known as Maharajas, but here in Mewar the kings were known as Maharanas – Maha meaning great and Rana meaning warrior. Take a tour of the City Palace and see how the Maharanas used to live.
A boat ride on Lake Pichola is a must and the best time is just before sunset. Udaipur is a a favourite spot for weddings not only among Indians but also international celebrities.
